If the collections shown this far at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week are a true evidence to spring, then you'll also see that construction and fashion design aren't always the way to go in this new decade.
Spring will bring easy, loose draping in women's and men's dress in as designers cuddle globalism, art and monochromatic styles. Look for loose jackets and pants, goddess-style dresses, tops both semi-transparent and formless and a mixing-and-matching of color, print and shapes.
But that's not all. Some designers have curved in into the past: You'll see 1920s references from Austin-born designer Tom Ford (yes, Ford has returned to creating women's ready-to-wear selections), the 1970s (Tracy Reese) and 1980s (Band of Outsiders has introduced a women's collection).
According to Pantone, which surveyed New York designers, the big colors for the season comprise a honeysuckle pink, a coral rose, a beeswax yellow, a regatta blue, a peapod green, a lavender, "silver cloud" and a bluer turquoise called "blue Curaçao" in women's wear and similar shades in menswear, which also will see touches of firecracker orange, turf green and russet brown.
