Indian saree (alias Indian sarees, Indian sari, indian saris) are woven with one plain end (the end that is concealed inside the wrap), two long decorative borders running the length of the sari, and a one to three foot section at the other end which continues and elaborates the length-wise

decoration. This end is called the pallu; it is the part thrown over the shoulder in the Nivi style of draping.

Six yards of cloth. That is all there is to the saree. Yet, this dress worn by millions of Indian women is, by far, the most elegant. It is not merely an outfit but an ornament, lending both grace and glamour to the wearer.

Indian Saree is for all purpose - party wear, daily wear,bridal wear and so on. Introduction -Saree is the most popular women's wear in India since early days. Its a long fabric measuring 115 cm x 530 cm (breath x length). around 5 to 9 yards and used to cover the entire body of a woman. The draping style is very unique to each region.

Varanasi is well known as the giant saree production center of India.Khinchabs and Amru brocades are made here. The Zari in the Khinchabs almost overshadow the original silk.

The Amru brocades are woven in silk, not in zari thread whereas' a typical Amru brocade is the Tanchoi. These are woven in all shades of red, orange and yellow.Similarly, south India hasKanjeevaram sarees are hand-woven silks, with unique practice in Tamil Nadu.Kornad sarees are also famous here. Karnataka is known for llkul sari bazaar.

llkul sari is made in e earth colors of rust, mustard, green and ochre, and woven with zari besides this Mysore crepe, Mysore silk or the Chamundi silk are also known far and wide. Muslin sarees made in Kerala for bridal wear are also very chic.

Eastern India has very famous sarees like Baluchari sarees of Murshidabad, the dhoop- chhaon sarees of Bishnupur West Bengal and other wedding sari. Baavanbuti sarees of Bihar with 52 motifs and Vichitrapuri sarees of Orissa is a wedding saree with ikkat works are renowned. Pasapalli or the Saktapar are the other exquisite sarees from Orissa. Equally the western India has best sarees like paithani or shallu with gold zari work and Astapuri saree of Maharastra is well known.

The Gharchola and Bandhini viz. tie-and-dye motifs of Gujrat and Rajastan finest sarees of India. Panetar Saree is also made in the region with gold zari work Banarasi sarees are the most often worn bridal wear.They have fine, hand woven exquisite zari work and stocks are always limited. Summer Georgette, Valkallam, Brocade (with zari work all over) Jamdaani , Jamava and Organza (cora touch) are the different varieties available in this category.

It was an unconventional bridal collection in all its glittering glory that Manish Malhotra presented for Spring/Summer 2010 at the end of the second day of Lakme Fashion

Week.

Glamour appeared on the ramp in large doses for the bride and her groom as the opulent saris, sherwanis, kurtas, lehengas, and the multi panelled swirling angarkhas were in rich bridal shades with the most lavish embroidery that any bridal couple can dream of.

The fabric choice for Manish was rich brocades, velvet, silk, tussar, net, lace and organza. In a colour palette that is favoured for wedding wear, the hues ranged from cobalt, burgundy, old rose, grey, cream, olive, fawn and brown for men’s wear which was designed into stylish panelled kurtas, bundgala jackets, stately sherwanis with interesting detailing like cord buttons, pin tucks, box pleats and a mix of textures. The constant accompaniment with the stately men’s wear was the Pakistani salwars, cowl pants or Patiala pants.

When it came to the bride’s elaborate creations there were circular panelled skirts in net with glamorous embroidery for the crushed full circle floor length kurtas or short sexy ones with interesting detailing like gold or silver touches, pleating and pin tucks. The gorgeous saris in striking red or bronze net with touches of velvet appliqué and heavy zardozi work were the highlight of the show along with the grand lehengas.

Each creation was crafted to perfection with imaginative construction and embellishments that dazzled the audience. There was obviously a lot of thought given to the different motifs that were splashed all over the saris, lehengas, dupattas, blouses and floor length net covers.

Once again Manish Malhotra the country’s most popular Bollywood designer brought on the ramp at Lakme Fashion week all the razzle and dazzle of the silver screen which was given a thunderous ovation by the audience.

Many women who are unsure of how to wear lipstick skip that step totally leaving makeup looking unbalanced. The wrong color lipstick, heavy lip liner and lips that have been "drawn on" are common makeup mistakes that will ruin your overall

Perfect looking lips are attainable and begin with an ideal lip line. You can have lips that look like a makeup artist did them simply by following a few important steps.

1. When applying foundation continue over the lips to provide a base for lip liner and lipstick.

2. Keeping your mouth-closed trace a fine line around the lips with a sharp pencil. A blunt pencil will make blending more difficult. Start at the v of the top lip and move outward to lip corners by making short strokes (rest your hand on your chin for better control). After you have penciled in the top lip, begin from the middle of the bottom lip and move outward also. Follow the natural lip line.

3. To make lips look larger follow the outer edge of the natural lip line making sure not to go over the natural lip line. To make lips look smaller follow the inside of the natural lip line.

4. Lipstick will stay on longer if the whole lip is filled in with lip liner before lipstick is applied. If you decide to use this technique, be aware that darker lip liner will darken the look of your lipstick. And, if you are going for a light look use a light lip liner.

5. Now that lips are filled in, apply lipstick with a lipstick brush (using a lip brush will give you more control). When lipstick has been applied, with lips closed, lay a tissue across both lips to blot.

You are ready to go, with perfect lips. Continue with touch ups during the day. If you are not used to wearing lipstick, it will probably take awhile to get used to having your lips done and not "eating" the lipstick. The plus to having nice lips, aside from the obvious, is you will never be plagued with dry lips again an over time they become softer. That's certainly reason enough to take care of your lips.

While we’re on the subject of international wedding gowns, I thought I’d do a small feature on Indian bridal dresses. I’ve always loved the colorful fabrics of the traditional sari, but if you thought the sari was beautiful and elaborate, you should see Indian wedding

dresses. Like the sari, they can be made out of all sorts of material – cotton blend, satin, crepe, georgette, silk, and other luxurious fabrics. The difference is that they are heavily embellished with beads, sequins, rhinestones, and Swarovski crystals. Indian wedding dresses
are usually red, but the bride can pretty much choose whatever color she wants.

What I’m going to show you today is a collection of Indian bridal dresses by designer Ritu Beri. They’re not so much traditional Indian bridal dresses as Western evening gowns made with luxurious Indian fabrics.

Fashion TV Banned For Airing Controversial Topless Figures

In an initiative for social welfare, the central government made a ban on the repeated telecast of Fashion TV for showing topless women on Thursday.

According to this ban issue, the information and broadcasting ministry revealed that such type of obnoxious telecast is prohibitory here in India.

Central government takes this strict action in observance to repeated telecast of

topless women by the famous FTV Channel from 7 p.m. on March 12 to the same time March 21, the ministry added, "through cable television networks and any other platforms throughout the country".

In a relayed programme of FTV channel on Sep 4, 2009 followed the same trend, the ministry added, "women with nude upper body which was offending against good taste and decency.”

The ministry stated, "The visuals were found to be obscene, denigrating women and were not suitable for children and unrestricted public exhibition”.

According to the ministry, the channel had violated the Cable Television Networks Rules, 1994 and this is the not the first time.

Even after repeated threatening from the Indian government, the Fashion TV seems to have no impact of it. May be this time they learn to follow rules with this strict action.

Mandira Bedi Adds Glamour

Donned in a Satya Paul ensemble, popular TV personality Mandira Bedi set Kolkata Fashion Week on fire as she walked the ramp on Saturday.

An excited Mandira later told reporters: "Kolkata is my birth place. This is the first time I have walked the ramp in

Kolkata. In real life the endorsements and the shows I do, I mostly wear Satya Paul saris.

"I have walked for Satya Paul in Delhi and Dubai," she said, draped in a red woven zari sari, with mock weaving with embroideries on it.

Satya Paul, the designer brand celebrating its 25th year, showcased collections based on hand weaving.

"In the first 10-15 years of our business, weaving and craftsmen have played an important role. If we don't support their livelihood they can never go ahead in their lives," said Puneet Nanda, Satya Paul's son.

Describing the collection that was exhibited as 'non-Satya Paul type', he said: "I am pleased to showcase such a collection in Kolkata as this place has a lot of respect and regard for weaving."

The collection named the 'Resham (silk) and Zari', showcases the weaving that goes into fabrics like woven silk as well as jacards, georgette and satin. The collection had both saris and lehengas.

She was showcasing her designs after a long time. And ace designer Ritu Beri's neat, flattering collection on display at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) stole the limelight from Bollywood actor Abhay Deol.

 

Dressed in a pair of jeans, crisp shirt paired with a black waistcoat and black hat, Abhay looked his handsome best. Female fans were completely floored when he smiled, flaunting his dimples.

 

But Beri's well-cut designs, full of youthful charm, teamed up with oversized hats, rose above Abhay's star power.

 

When IANS asked Beri why she brought Abhay as a showstopper, she said: "He wasn't my showstopper. He walked because he is a good friend. But there really is no one like Abhay - he is so cool, so himself, just so unaffected by anything around him, totally relaxed and adventurous. There's no one better I could have brought."

 

Abhay, who earned critical appreciation for playing a modern day Devdas in "Dev D", too was excited at walking the ramp.

 

"I am a great admirer of Ritu's work, Her clothes are fashionable yet very comfortable. I quite enjoyed walking the ramp," he said after the show.

 

Beri, who has a major international presence, also had her adolescent niece walk the ramp wearing a mini version of the final outfit - a red embroidered bridal gown, which was later showcased by supermodel Jesse Randhawa.

 

Randhawa's graceful moves and the peppy background music added to the beauty of the entire show, which was sponsored by Chivas.
