Trend fall fashion hits the mark for affordable style

This year, head-to-toe outfits from Target’s current fall Merona and Mossimo collections can be had for under $150, and by making wise choices, you can stretch your dollar and turn a few basic pieces into several different looks. Or, add some spice with some budget designer accessories.
Downtown Seattle will get its very own Target store in 2012. Meanwhile, locations in Northgate, West Seattle and Bellevue have on-trend bargains for frugal fashionistas.

Back to basics
Without the basics, there is no foundation upon which to build a great wardrobe. Wardrobe staples are timeless, easily transition from day to-night, never go out of style and set the stage to infuse your personality by pairing with touches of color, accessories and fun trends. One such basic is the classic black pencil skirt ($19.99, Mossimo). Black pants are another must-have for any closet, and you can hold on to the last mild days of fall by wearing Mossimo's shorter version in a black ankle pant ($29.99).  Denim-wise, like it or not, the skinny jean is here to stay ($19.99, Mossimo). This ruffled cardigan sweater is a basic with a twist, providing a little extra coverage on the arms for fall’s chillier days ($17.99).

Dress it up
The sheath dress is a basic -- and a classic -- in its own right. Wear it to work, dinner. It’s one versatile piece that requires very little thinking, yet always looks put together. A combo dress designed to appear as two pieces is an interesting twist on the sheath, such as Merona’s black-and-gray tweed dress ($39.99). The sheath is anything but boring when accessories such as a floral brooch are added, like on Merona's gray tweed dress ($39.99). And, last but not least, no wardrobe is complete without the L.B.D., like Merona’s black chain dress ($39.99).

Fall’s essential item
If there is one item of clothing that every Seattleite needs, it’s a jacket. While certainly useful for keeping off the rain and out the cold, a jacket is not just about functionality; it’s also about style. One classic option is the khaki belted trench coat ($49.99). If you are looking for a trench that is a little less Burberryesque, Target is also offering a black-and-white plaid trench for fall ($49.99). Both trench coats are water-resistant, perfect for rainy Seattle days.

Complete the outfit
Fall and winter are all about boots, boots and more boots. The basic at-the-knee boot -- like Mossimo’s brown western boots ($29.99) -- never goes out of style and can be paired with a skirt or worn over skinny jeans. Or, embrace the of-the-moment trend with a pair of Dolce Vita for Target Buckle Ankle boots that can spice up leggings or give an edgy look to a skirt or dress ($34.99).
